Pre Baby Body and Other Myths

I read a great blog recently about getting your pre pregnancy body back and how, really, that's not ever going to happen.  I wanted to put my own take on it.  Listen to this and try to take it in.  It will save you a lot of angst and anxiety.

Ways To Improve Sleep

If you are fairly newly post natal (or maybe not so newly post natal), it can be really difficult to get enough sleep in to help you on your road to post natal happiness!  I remember watching box sets through the night with my first son because I thought I had to be up and alert and ready to feed.  This didn't work at all.  With my second, I didn't get out of bed!  Try some of these tips to help improve your sleep:

Turn off all electronic devices two hours before going to bed (or at least one!)

We Are Not The Same and Shouldn't Eat Like We Are

I've had a lot of illnesses lately and the final straw was getting an allergic reaction this week which made my eyes and upper lip swell up.  Nice.  I knew something wasn't quite right for someone who is as active and supposedly healthy as me.  So, determined to get to the bottom of it (despite knowing really what was happening...too much sugar...too much chocolate...) I went to see someone who did a Vegatest this morning.  It's a bio-electrical analysis that tests all sorts of foods, environmental triggers, organs, vitamin and mineral deficiences, everything.

Mums, 'me time' and how it's sabotaging your efforts

If there is one thing right now that is sabotaging your fat loss and health goals, it is going to be the hours between 7pm and 10pm.  Danger time.  In other words, once the children are in bed and you have some time to yourself.  Your time.  A time when you can do what you want without being asked for anything.  When things magically stay in the same place and stay tidy!  I've yet to meet a mum who doesn't value this time.  Unfortunately what we do in this timeframe is stopping us achieving what we want.

How many times have you said the following?

A Quite Unbelievable Morning

I've just had one of those quite unbelievable mornings.  You know the ones.  It started last night at 9.45pm when I thought I had everything ready for the next day and then discovered a machine full of washing that had to go out on the radiators otherwise we'd all be smelling like damp dog.  I hate washing by the way.  From having to put it into the machine, to getting it out of the machine and don't get me started on the putting it all in little piles for everyone and then in their respective drawers.  So, anyway.  I get to bed at a reasonable time, 10.15pm and fall asleep quickly.

The Best Post Natal Exercise

What are the best exercises to get your back in shape following a baby?  I'm always surprised when new mums are targeted by sessions that are high intensity.  If you've had a baby recently (or even not so recently), high intensity can be detrimental to getting back in shape.  I'm not saying never, but give yourself a chance to heal first. What you need now is to start easing yourself into exercise that targets your core and pelvic floor.  Working from 'the inside out' if you like.  So, what is the best way to get back in shape and lose fat?

I feel so old!

On a recent weekend away, my dear best friend told me that as her boys got older, she felt younger.  It's so true isn't it?  When you have babies and young children, you can feel a hundred years old.  Your every waking moment is consumed by thoughts of your children, either consciously or sub-consciously.  You don't have any head space.  When they are so young, you have to do everything for them.  It is exhausting telling a toddler eight times to get his shoes on or telling your five year old that he has to eat his dinner to get big muscles (!).

Post Natal Depression & Food

In my role as a health and female fitness coach, I see a lot of women with post natal depression.  It can be mild and just shows itself as a few tears and a general feeling of being down or fed up.  Or, it can be completely overwhelming and sometimes require help from doctors and psychiatrists.  I wanted to blog about the link between post natal depression and nutrition as it is SO important.
