On a recent weekend away, my dear best friend told me that as her boys got older, she felt younger. It's so true isn't it? When you have babies and young children, you can feel a hundred years old. Your every waking moment is consumed by thoughts of your children, either consciously or sub-consciously. You don't have any head space. When they are so young, you have to do everything for them. It is exhausting telling a toddler eight times to get his shoes on or telling your five year old that he has to eat his dinner to get big muscles (!). Seriously, recently I even considered having a shot of Botox in my frown line it was getting so bad. I call it the 'mummy frown', just as there is a 'mummy tummy', there is a frown. It gets deeper towards the end of the day and probably peaks at around bedtime.
Don't get me wrong, I love my kids and am grateful that I get to spend so much time with them. But, they do certainly age you and that's why I'm glad that that starts to reverse as they get more independent. So thank you for your wisdom Gem, it has given me hope.
