It's only quite recently that women have been so concerned about losing weight after children. I've been thinking a lot about this and genuinely don't remember my mum worrying about her weight as half as much as I do. I remember her sitting on holiday in a bikini with a drink (probably a Martini!) and absolutely not caring a jot about what anyone thought of her. We are constantly exposed to images that aren't real and pressures that are not really there if you really think about it. Who really cares if you have a few extra pounds after having children? We all end up a different shape for sure, whether we lose or gain weight at all. You make the decision to care about it or not.
Most mums would desire a flatter stomach but it's not the end of the world. It really isn't. What about nurturing yourself? What about taking time to get your mojo back? Babies and young children are really hard work (fun, but work!) and you need all of your energy for them. Sure, join an exercise group and get active but don't let it rule your life. There is plenty of time for that. When your children are out of nappies and maybe start attending a day at nursery or a couple of days at pre school, that's when we really start to reclaim ourselves. It's when you accept that being a mum and being you is possible. It's the best possible version of you!
